I have always found large bodies of water to have a musical and emotional quality to them ranging from a peaceful trickling stream as it dances a light waltz to an angry branch slapping against a rock on the shore in the style of a pounding Irish folk song. You can understand then that I was thrilled to have an opportunity to write a score that so heavily involved the idea of bringing this natural beauty to life in music. While reading Ernest Thompson's script for On Golden Pond, I found it interesting how important of a character the pond is to the story. I just loved how the pond's changes tied so closely to this family's story as they progress through their seasons of life. It led me to then write each musical piece as a representation of the changing seasons on the pond. At the beginning, the atmosphere is that of new possibilities as we imagine Spring flowers beginning to bloom, and by the end of the show, the feel of the music transforms into a more brisk Autumn.

My hope is that this collection could also represent a little of what I hear when I listen to the music of water. Please don't miss the 2013 Riverfront Production of this wonderful script performing until April 13, 2013, and I hope you enjoy the music!
