Although I don't usually have vocals with lyrics in scores, I thought it was a good opportunity to introduce it in this song. The challenge to it was to not beat the audience over the head with the ideas introduced in the scene. Instead, with the playwrite's permission, I introduced a new perspective into the scene by adding this song. My hope was to make this the mother's inner voice and to capture the next step of a potential emotion in the scene. It was a wonderful opportunity that the playwrite gave me so much freedom, and I am ever so grateful that it ended up in what I hope to be a powerful moment in the show.
